The joy of finding out you are having a beautiful baby should never end with tears of learning you may not get to raise that child. But like so many families that reach out to String of Pearls, we learned in September 2011 that our daughter had a fatal form of dwarfism and wasn’t expected to live through the pregnancy or birth. We were lucky to have 37 weeks with Sophia Rose, before she was born unable to breath due to her size. Our road wasn’t easy, but we feel so fortunate that String of Pearls was able to help us prepare for her birth to make memories. They also helped on the little stuff you couldn’t bear to think about- like what funeral home to use and what do you say to people. I know that we couldn’t have survived this period of our life without the resources and support from String of Pearls and other families. We love to continue to be a part of String of Pearls events to continue to meet other families, honor our daughter’s memory and support other parents walking this path.
If you or someone you know is facing a prenatal diagnosis, reaching out for help is the first but hardest step. String of Pearls will serve as a tangible reminder that you will not be alone as you walk this journey.
